Announcing WordPlay: A New Writerly Games Festival
Taking place Saturday, Nov. 16th from 12-5pm at the Toronto Reference Library, WordPlay will be a free one-day festival to celebrate the most interesting writerly games. It’ll feature:
- A showcase of local and international videogames and boardgames with a word or strong writing component.
- A panel with game/book cross-media types.
- A bookclub-style in-person discussion with the Chicago-based creators of IGF winner Kentucky Route Zero.
- An interactive fiction-making workshop.
It’s a part of International Games Day at Your Library, and is a partnership between the Hand Eye Society and the Toronto Public Library.
Want to be involved? Here’s what we need at the moment:
- Game suggestions and submissions: have you made (or know of) a great game with a word or strong writing component? Send us a link and tell us why by Sunday August 25th at midnight. No submission fee, local and international games welcome.
- Design work: We’re looking for a volunteer to design the festival identity and promotional postcard. Please send links to previous work you’ve done.
- Promotional help: We need folks to hand out said postcards at the Word on the Street on Sunday September 22. As always, we strive to expose new people to what’s going on in game culture, and word-lovers flock to this event.
For all the above, email us at info@handeyesociety.com. Remember, 10 hours of volunteer time gets you voting rights and a Hand Eye Society membership.
More volunteer opps (and exciting reveals!) to come as we get closer to the date.
