Toronto Folks In The Media
The Hand Eye Society in partnership with Curio Films and Bell Local released the first episode of YYZ Gameshow, a show about Toronto’s game culture — watch it now on Fibe on channel 1217, or subscribe to our YouTube channel for segment releases.
The whole city gains recognition in this Forbes piece about the Toronto videogame scene and the OMDC: “How A Small Government Program Helped Turn Toronto Into A Videogame Sanctuary”.
Merritt Kopas is on the cover of indie culture mag Broken Pencil!
Big Sushi has released its top 10 games of 2014, and naturally, Capybara’s Super Time Force makes the cut. It also had Bento Miso co-founder Henry Faber list his personal favorite events of 2014, and everything from the Bit Bazaar to Longstory gets mentioned.
Speaking of Capybara, they definitely need to release Below, seeing as Wired and Polygon both put it on their most anticipated 2015 lists.
Toronto-made music game Sound Shapes, gets a shout-out in this Musicworks article about the changing face of video game music, as does Drinkbox Studio’s Severed. Zack Kotzer also wrote about our To the Streets initiative for Spacing Magazine.
Are you an indie developer looking to promote your game? Check out this video from last years’ GDC, where Drinkbox Studios tells the tale of their misadventures marketing Tales from Space: About a Blob.
The IGDA released a video of their January talks on videogame level design with Raigan Burns & Mare Sheppard (Metanet Software Inc.), Jason Canam (DrinkBox Studios) & Droqen (Starseed Pilgrim, Probability 0).
That’s all for now! If there’s any events, Toronto games news, new releases, or rad media coverage, don’t hesitate to pass it along to us via email or to @HandEyeSociety on Twitter. We will list any game releases, help wanted/offered, or relevant news links we get!
