New Perks for Members! CarShare Contest for Everyone!

We know lots of you are excited about our upcoming fancy videogame party at the Masonic Temple, Sat. Sept 24. Did you know monthly members get a 25% discount? And that new members who sign up at the annual rate get a free ticket to the Society Ball? Those aren’t vicious rumours, my friend, they are the truth.

Also true: we have recently established a partnership where Hand Eye Society members get $45 off the first year of Enterprise CarShare membership. Members will be emailed the discount code!

It’s great if you just need a car for a few hours, and they have pick-up lots all over. They are also sponsoring the transport of the Torontron indie arcade cabinets this year, and we’re pretty stoked about that. To celebrate, we’re running a contest to give away one year of free membership and a $100 driving credit! Both subscribers to this newsletters (ie, you!) and Hand Eye members are eligible, just go here to enter. Contest closes Sept 14th at 4pm.

Other membership perks include discounts to our community partners: Co-working spaces Tract 9 and Lab TO, Iceman Games, Real Escape Games, and The Beguiling comic book stores! Not to mention you’ll be supporting the year-round activities we organize as a videogame arts not-for-profit, including educational and social activities such as our upcoming Make Games with Stencyl workshop and Escape the Jam, both of which are free or super cheap for HES members. Check out the details and consider joining for as little as $7/month!

If you’re broke, you can still earn membership by volunteering for 10 hours a year for any videogame culture project in the city. Sign up to be a volunteer here, and if you’ve earned your 10 hours, get in touch at volunteer@handeyesociety.com to let us know to add your name to our Membership roster.

Want a complimentary ticket to the Ball? Sign up to be an on-site volunteer by e-mailing Kai Winter at kai@handeyesociety.com with your name and area of interest within the next week. There are two main shifts at about 2.5 hours each so you can spend time enjoying the rest of the party, and earn hours towards a full 1-year membership if you haven’t already done so! We’re looking for about 20-30 volunteers in the following roles:

  • Game station attendants
  • Ticket takers
  • Line wranglers
  • Safe Spaces Officers
  • Coat check
  • Set-up and tear-down

Thanks to all our fantastic staff, volunteers and supporters; you’ve been great, as always. Looking forward to more fun and games throughout the fall and beyond!
