PAX East Roadtrip 2010

Boston map

Since a bunch of us are going to PAX East in Boston this year, why not all go together and make it an epic roadtrip? Fast food, car farts and interminable boredom await… not to mention car-to-car WiFi gaming battles!

The plan is to stop in Rochester and check out NCHEG, the National Center for the History of Electronic Games (ncheg.org), nerd out, grab dinner and possibly drink too much. The next morning we’ll finish the drive and be at PAX for the weekend before returning Sunday.

If that sounds interesting, fill out the survey below. It’s just to see if people are down, no commitment at this point… if there’s enough people we’ll plan it out. And if you have ideas or questions, post up a comment.

Among other things, it looks like it’ll be the biggest gathering of interactive fiction authors ever:

I just found out about the Hand Eye Society maybe a week ago and have yet to participate at all. Sadly, I also may not be able to make the social this week. However, I am in Toronto and I’m going to PAX East, and at the moment I’m going on my own so I will have three empty seats in my car. I dunno how people feel about spending many hours in a car with a newbie who they don’t know, but I’m happy to offer driving.

@Jim Munroe: I’m actually primarily going to PAX East for the interactive fiction content. I found out about it through Emily Short’s blog.

Hey Irfon, cool! If I don’t see you at the Social I’ll see ya at the People’s Republic of Interactive Fiction Hospitality Suite at PAX.

If you haven’t already, hit that survey — there’s a dozen people in the mix at this stage and it’s likely an extra car will be appreciated.

I just looked at the survey, but sadly I don’t think my timing plans coincide with the proposition much: I’m heading out on Thursday, returning Monday. :/

Hey Irfon, don’t count yourself out yet, there may be people interested in your schedule.

Yeah, but there’s no way to indicate “I have a car to contribute but not on the days in question,” on the survey. If anyone reads these comments and wants a ride on the Thursday and Monday, feel free to let me know, though.

Planning for the roadtrip is moving along. We’re now determining who’s in for sure in order to plan the number of cars, who’s cars and who can drive. To reserve a spot we’re asking a $10 deposit that’ll go towards gas money. If you filled out the survey in the original post you got an email with the details. But if not and you want to jump in, all the info is here (http://guestlistapp.com/events/14997).

The three day passes sold out (as they should have) AND Saturday’s gone too. Friday and Sunday are still worth attending though eh? Anyways, buy you passes right away if you are even thinking of attending.

If you can’t get a ticket for Saturday online you can get one on the spot. If not from the box office, from people out front. I used to do this most events, esp. pricy ones I only wanted to check out briefly. You can get tix for half price usually, less if you catch someone leaving. In Indianapolis last summer we scored 3-day passes for MotoGP for $50 (regular around $175 if I recall). It took about an hour but was worth it and a fun little challenge. I don’t mind helping anyone out with this. Definitely don’t let it be the reason you stay home.
